Join us on February 5, 2027, at Grant MacEwan University for a full-day seminar bringing together professionals, leaders, first responders, advocates, survivors, and community partners from across sectors to explore how we can create more effective, trauma-informed responses to domestic violence.

This national pilot initiative is being hosted in collaboration with Warriors Way Forward Association, DGS Immersive Training, SAiF Society, and the Coalition for Canadian Police Excellence, in collaboration with Grant MacEwan University. Domestic violence is complex. The way a situation is understood and responded to in the first moments can have a profound impact on the safety and outcomes of survivors and families.

This seminar will bring together speakers and perspectives from across multiple sectors, including lived experience, policing, emergency services, advocacy, education, and community organizations. Together, we will examine the realities of domestic violence, coercive control, trauma, survivor experiences, and the challenges faced by those responding to these situations.

Through presentations, discussion, lived-experience perspectives, and an introduction to immersive trauma-informed training, participants will explore: -How trauma can affect the way survivors communicate and respond during crisis -The complexities of coercive control and domestic violence -Gaps and challenges in current responses -How first responders can better recognize trauma and risk -The importance of collaboration between police, fire, EMS, advocates, and community organizations -How lived experience can help shape better policies, practices, and training -How immersive training can help prepare responders for the realities of domestic violence calls -Opportunities to build more consistent, survivor-centred responses across Canada

Your registration includes a light breakfast and a catered lunch, providing an opportunity for participants to connect, network, and continue the conversation throughout the day.

This is more than a seminar. It is an opportunity to bring different sectors into the same room, listen to one another, learn from lived experience, and begin building a better way forward.
